A musical fairy tale about Nikos Skalkottas
The musical fairy tale “A Bridge, different from the others, and the Water Dragon” for narrator and orchestra is the Greek artistic contribution to the world of musical fairy tales. Its main character is little Nikos Skalkottas. He forms strong friendships, he fights with dragons and builds bridges in order to connect different musical cultures. In the pages of this fairy tale, the Greek musical tradition and classical music become a source of inspiration, they are reconstructed and the story turns into a event so that children will have the chance to experience a concert, to get acquainted with the wonderful “Greek Dances” by N. Skalkottas and to raise their awareness on social solidarity issues and on the exchange of cultural stimuli. Several educational programs have been based on this musical fairy tale, which are implemented by Arts Lab (Kallitexniki Paideia) in Chalkida, the hometown of Nikos Skalkottas, and they are accompanied by a portfolio of several educational activities (www.vanasbooks.gr).
For children 5-12 years of age.
*The recording and filming of the event could not be completed due to the emergency measures against the pandemic. The screening of the entire musical fairy tale will be held in the future, and throughout the Book Fair a part (12 minutes) will be screened.
